What is the whole "doubling" thing that I have read on several sites about the G2?

For example a website says 14-42mm kit lens is 28-84mm 35mm equivalent. Does this mean if I fit a 35-70mm Minolta Lens onto the G2 that it would actually be 70-14mm? It's so confusing D:
