Is better for a strong, kind hearted man to remain single in this ugly world?

I guess with anybody it's about taking everything slowly and really getting to know someone first. You can no9t be blinded by looks, and you have to always read the "signs" that are given you. You must never try to "make it work" because if you have to make it work, then its not worht working. Its unfortunate that your friend feels that way, but he obviously was dealing with the wrong women. Apparently he was not reading the signs, and getting to deeply involved with women who had bad intentions. I know that both you and your friend will eventually find someone to be with.... because its an inevitable feeling. Humans just can't be alone... they will ALWAYS desire a mate. Goodluck :)
