Are my husband and I doing what is best by standing behind our kid's wishes?

Hi, I totally agree with your decision for your children. Every person has a right to make choices that affect their lives. We had a similar incident in our home I have 3 step children an18 year old boy and 2 girls 16 and 14, they 18 year old had just moved back in after a disagreement with his father that sent him with his mother to live. This poor excuse of a woman threw him out not to mention had not been in contact with us for 3 years to check on the girls but this was not new she was always moving and not letting us know where she was, the argument erupted when the 18 year old came back and found out his 16 year old sister was now refusing to call their mother mom she now calls her by her name. The 18 year old threw a fit but we had decided it was her choice and after being disrespected by this woman for most of her life she had the right to make it. I have been with these kids since they were 1,3, and 5. The 14 year old still says mom and that is her right as well.
